Golf Bahamas

The Bahamas are officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, consists of more than 3,000 islands, cays, and islets.

The Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean north of the Dominican Republic and just southeast of Florida. The Bahamas are the closets islands in the Caribbean to the US, although travelers always feel far more removed.

Once legendary as the stomping grounds for famous pirates such as Blackbeard, today the Bahamas are a great setting for Caribbean golf vacations.

The best islands in the Bahamas for golf are Nassau and its neighbor Paradise Island, plus Grand Bahama, the largest in the chain. Grand Bahama boasts the Reef course at the Grand Lucayan Resort, while Paradise Island has the Ocean Club.

Besides the Ocean Club and Reef Course, Ernie Els has designed a golf course called the Albany Club which is a 7,400 yard links-style course playing through windswept dunes. Albany is also on Nassau in the Bahamas and is located within an exclusive private oceanfront community about 45 minutes from the Ocean Club and Paradise Island. These 5 star resort cottages and private home vacation rentals are available at Albany with preferred play on the Els golf course.

Ocean Club, Nassau Paradise Island

The Ocean Club is a Tom Weiskopf-designed course offering every element for the perfect game. This 18-hole, par-72 course stretches over 7,100 yards on Paradise Island’s peninsula, where Atlantic crosswinds challenge every shot. Views of the beautiful Bahamian coastline make the Ocean Club Golf Course a spectacular and challenging venue to play golf. The golf club is located next to the famous Atlantis Resort a large family friendly property and the One & Only Ocean Club resort which is nestled peacefully along a shore of delicate white sand beach. The Ocean Club features luxury suites and villa type accommodations.

Reef Course, Grand Bahama Island

The Reef course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., and has been rated as one of the top courses in the Caribbean. The course features deceptively open fairways, rolling greens and an assortment of tall grasses, treacherous bunkers and enormous lakes. A strong short game goes a long way on this breathtaking course. The wide fairways may be a little forgiving but the huge bunkers that protect the greens are not. And the large, level greens may please the eye but their speed will harm your scorecard. Add that with an unpredictable ocean wind and you have yourself a formidable opponent.

Grand Lucayan, Grand Bahama Island

The Radisson Grand Lucayan resort in the Bahamas sits on 7.5 acres of sandy beach on Grand Bahama Island. The 740 guest rooms and suites are fashioned with excellent amenities and hug the pristine beaches and turquoise ocean. Guests can bask in the sun and revive the senses in the evening’s cool Caribbean air while dining with an ocean-view. With 3 pools, golf, tennis, sandy beach and the Isle of Capri casino, the resort never falls short of options. If all the play wears you out, reinvigorating Senses Spa and gym is at the ready or relax and gaze out over the turquoise ocean, the deep-water marina or gorgeous Grand Bahama Island.

The Grand Lucayan resort boasts 2 golf courses the Reef and Lucayan courses. The Lucayan course closed in 2011 for renovations with a pending opening date in 2013. The Reef course was designed by RT Jones is one of the best in the Bahamas.
